Top Chef Las Vegas
Following the first five successful incarnations of the Top Chef program, the sixth season saw seventeen new contestants fight their way to culinary glory. The television show was a reality program, with the contestants, or cheftestants completing a number of cooking games to advance in the competition and avoid elimination. As part of the contest, all of the contestants were forced to stay away from their families and friends in a house in Las Vegas that was specially converted for the process. With Top Chef Las Vegas, many fans found new favorites with the number of colorful personalities on the show.
While Michael Voltaggio was the eventual winner of the competition, there were several other contestants that became quite popular. Of these, Kevin Gillespie won the title of Fan Favorite with his unique brand of simple cooking that highlighted pure flavors on the plate. In addition to Gillespie and Michael Voltaggio, Jennifer Carroll and Bryan Voltaggio also made it to the finale. In the end, the judges found the younger Voltaggio brother to be the best of the best. His final presentation included a number of excellent dishes, such as a sweet and sour crab salad with squash and a pistachio cassoulet with textures of mushrooms.
Jennifer Carroll and another contestant, Mike Isabella, from Top Chef Las Vegas returned to the cooking games in a later season of the show. Called Top Chef All Stars, this eighth season in the Top Chef legacy featured contestants from previous seasons that were eliminated in their run to the little. Isabella did better than most experts predicted, eventually finishing second to the favorite, Richard Blaise. While some critics of Top Chef Las Vegas commented that the competition was much easier than in previous shows, the success of Isabella proved that the contestants were actually much better than previously thought.
